Personal Iconography series: Theseus

I returned to this piece after many months of dis-satisfaction (earlier version now included in my WIP folder). I simplified the background, tried to correct some imbalances in the base, and emphasized a few tiny details. I can let it rest now. Sorry for the glare at the bottom; stand oil medium takes forever to dry.

Again, although the idea for this painting does not directly originate in any of the models and beautiful photos found in cable9tuba's gallery, [link] it draws much inspiration from that gallery. I am always awed and inspired by his work - a significant body of work which reveals the beauty and dignity of the black male form. Here's to you, cable9tuba!
